It wasn't that Lee was unused to sand; spending as much time around the Kazekage as he tended to, he was used to sand inching and creeping into every crevasse of his body, sifting through his hair, or forever having to be dug free from under fingernails.
This sand felt different, grittier somehow, like comparing talc powder to dirt. Lee hefted a handful of it and dropped it, watching as it clumped damp back against the rest. "I wasn't talking about the sea," Gaara piped up quietly to his right. Lee glanced over at him briefly and nodded, only once.

The two genin stood and brushed themselves off, and walked away side by side from the sea. Behind them, foam crested red and thick up along the shore, gently lapping over the still bodies, two of them, matted green and red.
