I was more thinking generally in the lines of that Dean usually would like to know who or what he's actually sleeping with I'm not really sure how exactly to put this (and consider myself ever in a position of learning on these issues), so forgive me if this isn't as clear or concise as it could be. The terming of this as Dean not knowing "who or what" is kind of problematic. There's a long history of the use of "what" to dehumanize people who are already oppressed, such as people who identify as genderqueer, are gender non-conforming, or otherwise fall into a non "mainstream" gender identity. Furthermore, on the question of "who"--Dean already knows Anna as an angel who pulled out her grace, and probably knows more about her than 80% of the people he's canonically slept with. While gender and gender identity do inform identity, a) I don't think Dean actually cared much more about who Anna was than Anna cared about who Dean was, and b) how is it any of Dean's business how Anna does or does not identify?
